In Another Place, In Another skin 2021, 2022 囚

In 'In Another Place, In Another Skin,' I aimed to explore how space can reshape behaviour and identity. The first version was created in an open studio during my residency. I concealed myself within the white box. The situation is akin to the Chinese word 'captivity (囚)'—a person enclosed and restricted. I was no longer a free individual but became an object with a hidden identity. In that confined space, I wore gloves and used tools commonly employed by exhibition builders, crafting an 'artwork' for the audience. In the second performance at the exhibition opening, I recontextualized the work. As two construction builders carried the plinth with me inside in front of the audience, the performance unfolded. I wove a connection between the performance and labour—the gestures of my labour and the builders' real work merged seamlessly into the performance.
